SchoolMessenger CMA: Sorting News Stories

Sorting News Stories

By default, news stories will be displayed by their last modified time. In other words, the most recently posted (or edited) story will be the first one users see when clicking the news button followed by the second most recent story, the third most recent, etc. However you can choose from a number of other sort options as well.

To specify the type of sorting you would like to use click Sort.

In the drop-down menu that appears, you can choose from the following options:

  • Manually: Allows you to drag and drop the news stories into the order you prefer.
  • By modification time: Sorts the news based on when stories were last modified.
  • By creation time: Sorts the news based on when the stories were originally created.
  • By name: Sorts the news alphabetically by Title.
  • By distance: Sorts the news by distance. This option is only useful if your news stories are being imported via RSS and contain a location field.

With all of these options other than Manually, you can also choose whether to sort the news in Ascending or Descending order.

Sorting News Manually

If you choose to sort news manually, you will be able to drag and drop the news stories in to the order you prefer.

  • Note: You should only use the manual sort option if you are manually adding news stories or using one-time imports. For feeds that are being synchronized regularly, the order will revert every time the sync runs again.

To sort the news, click the icon to the left of the news story you wish to move.
