Hello,
We have begun building our master schedule and will have two different bell schedules, one for 6th grade and the other for 7th-8th grades. Does this mean that we have to put 6th grade in one house and 7th-8th in another? What do you recommend? We are using PowerScheduler. Thank you.
@dcamarena You can separate students into Houses, which is like having a school within a school. Houses are used to group students together, and students can only take courses from teachers associated with that house. If you use houses, you will need to associate the teachers, students, and room numbers to a specific house.
You can also have more that one bell schedule. If the 6th graders are on a different schedule, it might be easier to have the teachers post the schedule in their classrooms and students move to their next class at the appointed time. Are the sixth graders housed in a different building from the 7th and 8th graders?

Hi Nicole,
You cannot have more than one Bell Schedule per day in PowerSchool.
Hi Jeff,
Thank you for your reply. Any advice on how to go about putting the following bell schedule in PowerSchool?
7th-8th M-T-F | 6th Grade M-T-F* |
Period 1 8:30-9:18-48 Period 2 9:21-10:09 - 48 Recess 10:09-10:21-12 Period 3 10:24-11:12-48 Period 4 11:15-12:03-48 Lunch 12:03-12:43-40 Period 5 12:46-1:34-48 Period 6 1:37-2:25-48 Period 7 2:28-3:15-47 | Period 1 8:30-9:18-48 Period 2 9:21-10:09-48 Period 3 10:12-11:00-48 Recess 11:00-11:12-12 Period 4 11:15-12:03-48 Period 5 12:06 - 12:54-48 Lunch 12:54-1:34-40 Period 6 1:37- 2:25-48 Period 7 2:28-3:15-47 |
@dcamarena I included a link to setting up a bell schedule. Are you wanting to set up 2 bell schedule in PS for the same day? You can have bell schedule but have the grade levels in different classes.

I don't think he is trying to have the bell rings on 2 different schedules.

Hi Nicole,
The 6th won't be entirely housed in another building. Because of electives, they will be moving across campus but their core classes will be in the same building.
See our possible bell schedule for next year. What would be the best way to do this in PowerScheduler? Thank you!

We had this happen at our middle school. All of the common periods can stay the same and be used for both. Those that differ need new periods built.
Period 3 and 5 differ as well as lunch and recess. Do you schedule for lunch and recess?
As an example, I used the 6th grade and added a period 8 and 9 which are really Period 3 and 5. You can name them Gr6 p3 and Gr6 p5 or something similar to be able to identify them. You would also have to update the sections for classes for grade 6 in that period. If you have students already enrolled, you will need to probably run a special function to Reset Section Meetings.
Another possible issue is with attendance. How do you take attendance? If you have a bridge for daily attendance, you can only have 1 bridge period, so you would need to pick a common period. If you do meeting attendance, if you do % it will only look at the % of classes scheduled for a student to calculate daily attendance and not the number of periods overall.

I am trying to figure out if the schedule that I have will work in Power School. I have a K-3 building and would like kindergarten to be on a different specials schedule that grades 1-3. Here is what I am proposing, but I don't know how to create this in Power School. I would like kindergarten to be on a five day specials rotation, while the rest of the building is on an ABCD. Is that something that is possible? rotation.https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1o1iHQ2za_uWkBy5gUE-KeCZPsjvB2-v3R5S98guXbdc/edit?usp=sharing
