End-of-School-Year Readiness with SchoolMessenger Communicate

As the school year is coming to a close, taking a few proactive steps in SchoolMessenger Communicate can help districts avoid unnecessary messages, prepare for data changes, and ensure a smooth restart in the fall. Disabling unneeded repeating broadcasts, planning data rollovers, and reviewing user access now can save time and reduce risk later.

Prepare your summer communication strategy before the school year ends

When the school year ends, communication needs change. But your responsibility to manage them doesn’t stop.

Summer is the ideal time to pause what’s no longer needed, plan for upcoming data updates, and make sure your SchoolMessenger Communicate setup is ready for a strong start next year. A simple end-of-school checklist can help you stay organized and confident heading into the quieter months.

An in-depth walkthrough can be found in our PowerSchool Community.

What should I review in SchoolMessenger Communicate at the end of the year?

At the end of the school year, it’s important to review any Repeating Broadcasts, such as attendance notifications or food service messages. Disabling broadcasts that are no longer needed during the summer helps prevent outdated or unnecessary communications from being sent.

Note: If you have Repeating Broadcasts used with the SenderApp Send Repeating feature, it’s recommended not to disable those unless they are truly not needed.

Do I need to plan for a data rollover before next school year?

If your data needs to be rolled over before the next school year begins, you should plan ahead by scheduling a rollover appointment with PowerSchool Support. Coordinating this early helps ensure your student and staff data is ready when communication activity increases again in the fall. Reach out to PowerSchool Support.

What if my district is making system-wide data changes?

If your district is changing student information systems or making other system-wide data changes, such as adding new imported data, it's a good idea to open a case with PowerSchool Support to receive expert assistance with updating your data imports and/or any other system changes you're anticipating for the fall. Summer is often the best time to make these adjustments with minimal disruption.

Should I review user accounts during the summer?

Yes. The end of the school year is an ideal time to review User Accounts in SchoolMessenger Communicate. If you’ll be adding new users or updating existing ones before next year, make sure you know how to manage user access rules so the right people are ready when school resumes.
