Proper Way to Handle Custody Restrictions

Hi everyone,

We have students who are not permitted to see their birth parents as they are in DCF custody. We want to retain the name of the parents and possibly the contact info - so school staff knows what it is in case the parents try to contact the school - but NOT permit the parents to get communications from PS or SchoolMessenger or have any access to a portal. The parents already had access to everything last year before the custody issue occurred. How do we prevent the parent emails from getting into SchoolMessenger lists, and "lock" the parent portal account? So far I have added a custody note, but many teachers don't see this and of course this does nothing to prevent the parent emails from getting into lists. I've also disabled the Web Account, but can't seem to actually delete it.

Hello,

The parents ability to access the Parent Portal was taken away when you disabled the account. For the parents to not show up in the list in SchoolMessenger I would try this: in contacts under the original contact type of the mother and father leave that blank. SchoolMessenger usually only pulls the students first two contacts or will pull the parent/guardian who has data access, Custody or Lives with checked.
