Is there a way to automatically notify parents about an absence?
Hi!
I'm new at Power School, and I'm trying to find a way to automatically notify parents via email when their student is absent. Thanks!

Parent notifications isn't part of the core product. We use a 3rd party communications systems and our attendance secretary runs a report of those kids to send mass calls to the group.

We've been using SchoolMessenger to handle our mass communications for years. They are now a PowerSchool product.

We worked with our automated call system to create scripts to send certain types of calls to go out when students reached certain thresholds. This was not done through PowerSchool, but through the auto-call vendor, who pulled the attendance daily via an auto-send from PowerSchool that they then ran their script on to auto-call those who met certain criteria.

Hi, Can you please specify the auto call service name? It would be great if we can set that up for our school.

Hi @ZainabP,
Thank you for posting in our PowerSchool Community!
As others have shared, there are various communication systems, such as School Messenger, that can work with you to set up the attendance data to send notifications through their systems.
PowerSchool has recently acquired a product that provides mass communication, two-way communication, attendance, and engagement technology. If you are interested in exploring this option, you can learn more about Kinvolved here.
We recommend that you work with your district system administrator or district leaders to review the various programs to find the one that works best for your district.
If we can continue to help, please let us know!

Our district uses SchoolMessenger. Parents are notified every evening around 5:00 based on the absences created in PowerSchool.
