Required Comments on Ontario Standard Report Cards for Secondary Schools

The Ministry of Education has announced guidelines for the various comments that should be displayed on the Secondary report cards.  They have indicated that the comment "This report card is for a reporting period that included provincially-mandated school closure from March 13, 2020 – June 30, 2020.should appear in the Board comment section.  Since the templates used for June reporting do not have this section available, the suggestion was made to use the 'For School Use' box on the Graduation Requirements Summary page for the comments. The Ministry is reviewing this suggestion, and we are moving ahead with making the necessary modifications.

There are also recommended comments for students who have had the community involvement or literacy diploma requirements waivedThese comments are to be entered into the 'For School Use' box on the Graduation Requirements Summary page.  We have let the Ministry know that the comments appearing in this box for secondary report cards printed from Trillium are the same for all students, not customized for individual students.

Schools can enter the 'For School Use' comment using the Report Card Layout tab of Build Secondary Achievement, in either Core Trillium or TwebSchAdmin.  However, currently, the size of the comment is limited to 240 characters.  With the release of CT 4.13.10 and TwebSchAdmin 5.42.30 the comment size will increase to 650 characters, which will be large enough to enter the entire comment.  Each school will need to enter the comment for the report card layout that will be used for the June report cards.  The full comment should be:

"This report card is for a reporting period that included provincially-mandated school closure from March 13, 2020 – June 30, 2020.  For the 2019-20 school year, the requirement to complete 40 hours of community involvement has been waived by the Minister of Education.  Due to exceptional circumstances, the Minister of Education has waived the literacy graduation requirement for the 2019-20 school year."

Any other standard course comment on the report card will be the responsibility of the schools and/or teachers.  Automatically inserting comment text into these boxes risk comments being truncated, depending on the comments already recorded.

The Core Trillium 4.13.10 and TwebSchAdmin 5.42.30 releases are expected to be available the week of June 8th.
