Resolving Android App Rejection Due to Foreground Service Permission Declaration

Overview

When submitting an Android application to the Google Play Store, Google may reject the app during the review process if additional information is required regarding the use of Foreground Service permissions.

This article explains how to complete the Foreground Service declaration and resubmit the application for review.

 

Procedure

Open the Foreground Service Declaration

1. Sign in to the Google Play Console.
2. Open the application that was rejected.
3. Review the rejection notification and locate the Foreground Service permission issue.
4. Click Go to Declaration.

 

Complete the Declaration Form

1. Select Other as the Foreground Service type.
2. Complete the required fields.

Permission Usage Description

In the Describe Permission Use field, enter the following:

This foreground service is used for call API to get data from server continuously without pause because any changes done on the server side needs to be received immediately. So this service needs to run continuously.

3. Click Save.

 

Continue the Release Process

1. Click Not Now if prompted.
2. Return to the Production page.
3. Click Edit Release.
4. Click Next.
5. Review the release details.
6. Click Next again.
7. Click Submit.

 

Push Changes for Review

1. Navigate to Publishing Overview.
2. Review the pending changes.
3. Submit the changes for review.

The release will enter Google's review process.

 

Publish After Approval

Once Google approves the build:

1. Return to the Google Play Console.
2. Navigate to Publishing Overview.
3. Click Submit to Production.

The approved release will then be published to production.

 

Verification

1. Confirm that the Foreground Service declaration has been saved successfully.
2. Verify that the release appears in the review queue.
3. Monitor the review status within the Google Play Console.
4. After approval, verify that the Submit to Production option becomes available.

Notes

• Google Play review times may vary and can take up to 7 days or longer depending on the review workload.
• Ensure that the permission usage description accurately reflects the application's functionality.
• If additional information is requested by Google, update the declaration and resubmit the release as instructed.
• Review all Play Store policy requirements before submitting future releases to help prevent rejection.
