Re: what is the roadmap for PSL now that powerschool is buying Schoology?

I did get a phone call from someone in UC product development.  I think that this was a shock for them and a decision was made high up at PS to buy Schoology and figure it out from there.  It is a win for PowerSchool because they now have a strong product to market and bring in new customers and a win for Schoology because they get funding they need to grow.  The plan is to continue to have Schoology operate separately and I think now PS is finding a way to get Schoology in the "UC Dashboard".   With so few UC customers they are willing to let us float around with no direction while they work out the big picture.  I will say though that everyone at PowerSchool have been responsive and available to us but they just dont have concrete answers.

There will be a lot of mixed messages I get a sense confusion will ensue. Schoolgoy reps are still selling the Schoology product as is (including AMP assessment).  They want you to do everything in Schoology.  The main point of entry for teachers and students.  Highlighting the PS Integration but have no idea when it comes to the UC interface (assignment/activity list and PS IDs)  Basically Schoology reps are pushing Schoology as the new Unified Classroom.  Which is fine by me but I dont think that is how PowerSchool sees it judging by the marketing materials with Schoology Learning in the UC Dashboard.  That is my biggest concern

@jhanlon

There may indeed be many mixed messages at this point - but one telling item is that when you go to www.schoology.com website and click "About", it brings you directly to the PowerSchool "About" page.

Hopefully their messaging will be consistent with a communicatable roadmap and timeline by Q1 of next year.  I just hope that the integratino occurs prior to the 2020-2021 school year...

Thank you to Matt Freund who pointed this out on PSUG.  I'm not sure when they added this to the PowerSchool Schoology FAQ but here it is:

Q: Is Schoology LMS replacing PowerSchool Learning?
PowerSchool is committed to investing in development and innovation across all our products. In this case, we plan to integrate and combine the best features and benefits of the PowerSchool Unified Classroom™ solution, including PowerSchool Learning, with Schoology’s LMS, providing a best-in-class solution for customers.  When they are ready to do so, customers will be provided a no-cost upgrade path to the combined solution.

Good find re: the updated FAQ!

« No cost upgrade » suggests that PSL is on its way out - it’ll be good to have confirmation of timeline & sunsetting dates so we can plan potential transition.

Re: what is the roadmap for PSL now that powerschool is buying Schoology?

We run a fully online 'school' based in the UK, serving families and small schools in over 20 countries. We are one of the old Haiku Learning brigade.

To say that PowerSchool have handled this whole Schoology/PSL situation badly is a huge understatement. In my opinion, they have shown enormous disrespect to their existing clients and continue to do so. I fully understand the needs for corporate control of the narrative but it is now clear the PowerSchool Learning is going to effectively be replaced by Schoology.

Why therefore can they now come out and clearly state this?

And, perhaps more importantly, why can't they provide clear signposting in terms of the sunsetting of PowerSchool Learning? For reasons that are specific to the UK curriculum, (our coures for 14-16 year olds run over two academic years) we need to know if PowerSchool Learning is being replaced by Schoology in September 2021. Our September 2020 courses run until June 2022. This should be a pretty easy question to answer, but it seems not!   Being told that we will be contacted in later 2020 to plan our transition is simply not good enough.

Is their plan that all of the old Haiku Learning users should simply head to a different platform and therefore solve their difficulties for them? It is certainly beginning to feel that way!

Re: what is the roadmap for PSL now that powerschool is buying Schoology?

It has been helpful to read through all of these posts. Did anyone attend the PSU session this morning? It was called Schoology 101. I completely forgot to request it in time, so I will only be taking the 201 session tomorrow. I was just wondering if any light was shed on this topic in the session today.

@nicoletawlks It doesn't look like any of the Schoology sessions looks ahead at what is the future of the product and if it will be further integrated within PowerSchool and/or the Unified Classroom.
