Unusual Sighting in AKO Online Scoring

Unusual Sighting in AKO Online Scoring

Background Information -

  • An AKO (Answer Key Only) assessment was created with a 15 point rubric.
  • The rubric required three different criteria with each criterion receiving 5 possible points, giving the student 15 points possible.
  • Due to the fact, AKO assessments will not accommodate more than 1 row, the criteria portion was inserted in the "Exemplar" box as a chart.
  • A sample assessment was created to "test" how it would look to the teachers when they went to online scoring.  Upon review, the rubric displayed perfectly with the three different criteria above the 15 point rubric.

Unusual Sighting Concern -

  • As teachers began scoring online, the Student Response column displayed numbers in descending order from 15-1 but below the 1, additional numbers (5, 4, 3, 2, 1) are displaying.
  • This obviously has caused confusion to some teachers.

Questions -

  • Why are the additional numbers (5, 4, 3, 2, 1) showing up in the Student Response column?
  • Does this have anything to do with the insertion of the chart in the exemplar box?
  • Has anyone seen this occur?  If so, how do we rectify the situation?
  • Finally, will this affect student data?

To assist you better with the issue that you are facing, would you provide us the Test ID for the Test that you have created?

Hi @Emmie1,

Thank you so much for providing us more information!

I recommend removing the criteria part within the Exemplar section which makes the Student Response column show additional numbers (5, 4, 3, 2, 1)Answer Key Only assessments should be able to accommodate more than 1 row when you make changes to the 'Criteria(rows)' column.  I recommend changing the number of rows to get more than one row and enter the criteria information to the original Rubric.  This should help you with the confusion you are facing.

We attempted to enter additional criterion rows but it was rejected when attempting to save the assessment.  We did some further checking and according to Performance Matters "Assessment and Analytics Help" under the heading of "Create Rubric" the following is stated.

"Note: Rubrics with more than one criteria row cannot be used for Answer Key Only Tests."

@Emmie1,

In Performance Matters, Rubrics with more than one criteria row cannot be used for Answer Key Only Tests. However, there is a workaround that could be performed.

The workaround is to use a section and put the number of items that you can criteria and then use individual rubrics per question.

For example, if you have an essay with 6 criteria on the rubric. You could create a section on the test and add 6 items, all extended text, and add a rubric for each criteria. The Rubrics could be either generic point value Rubrics that are already created or you could create separate criteria rubrics.

Hope this helps!
