I know how to manually upload a csv file using Data Import Manager to update the Student Email field in power school for students.
However, I am wondering is there a way to automate this process such as:
1. During enrollment/transfer (or otherwise setting up a new student) to auto populate the Student Email field. We use a standard pattern for emails that goes like this: firstname.lastname@ourdomain.org.
2. Setup the Data Import Manager with a scheduled import of the CSV file from our local server (such as over sftp).
I mean, we dont have a huge turnover or anything, I just like to have things automated if possible.
Thanks in advance for your input.
How are your students being enrolled?
It's just a few clicks for a registrar entering student data by hand to put that information in the right place.
If you are importing, I suppose you could concatenate first name, . , last name, @ , domain name and do an autocomm?
But, if you don't have much turnover, and people are doing the enrolling by hand, it would seem easier to let the registrar do it in the UI.
(not autocomm... scheduled Data Import Manager template)

Oh I agree! Its getting the registrar to actually remember to do it! lol
Scheduled Data Import Manager Template??
I cannot find a "Scheduled" section for Data Import, I can only schedule Data Exports....
Is Scheduling a Data Import possible? If so thats what I need and would love to know where its hidden at.
Hi @ParatrooperJoe,
PowerSchool SIS version 7.6 and above does not offer the option to import data into the Student Email field using AutoComm, however, data can be manually imported using Data Import Manager.
If you wish to schedule importing student email address on PowerSchool SIS, you can create a custom student email field and use AutoComm to schedule an import into the custom student email field. You can reach out to a Designated Support Contact of your school district and they should be able to help you with the process of setting up and scheduling data import into a custom field.
Creating a custom email field so you can automate the student email field to update is a horrible solution. Why can't PS fix this issue?
Agree - PS has the Student Email field so why would you want a custom field. PS should fix it.

@SowmyaN So are you talking about Enhancement ID: 4327 added on 02/14/2013, or maybe Enhancement ID: 8365 added on 09/13/2016, or possibly Enhancement ID: 10405 added on 05/07/2019?
I recommend using the PowerSchool Ideas Portal in the Community. All ideas have been added here from PowerSource. The idea with the ID SIS-I-8612 refers to sending student emails set up to be autocomm. You can vote and comment on the idea in the Community Ideas Portal. The same goes for Canvas. We have 38,000 students and a very high churn rate. Having to do this manually is ridiculous.
We need to upload a CSV file using Data Import Manager to update the Student Email field. What Target should we pick from the "Import Into:" dropdown box.
Thank you
