PowerSchool access for mentor

I mentor a student and she would like to give me permission to access her PowerSchool information (grades, standardized test scores, etc) since I’m helping her with college access and we can’t meet in person view the site together. Can someone help me with step by step instructions that I can give her that would allow me access? The school district says this is the only way. I don’t have experience with this system, I emailed PowerSchool and they were useless, I tried to use chat but they say I don’t have access, so I have no idea how to help her. Any guidance would be awesome!

It's not up to PowerSchool to give you any type of access to her account. That would be in violation of FERPA, state and local laws. The only people who can give you access are the parents and the student. She can either give you her own login credentials or the parents can share with you the access ID and password (if the school/school district has given parents access to PowerSchool) to create your own account like they may have done.

Hi Dan- I’m aware of FERPA and why PowerSchool cannot provide me access, which is why I was asking for step by step instructions for the student to follow in order to allow me access (I was told I could have something similar to parental access). Am I gathering that she would need to provide an access ID and password? Is that information found in a particular location on her own site or are her parents the only ones that have that information? My apologies for being completely out of the loop (I’ve never used this system), but it’s been hard to coordinate with my mentee on these matters in a virtual capacity and we’re working across a few other barriers. Thus, the need for *really* explicit instructions I can give her (and I don’t really want her username and password). My original inquiry with PowerSchool was answered by simply restating my question, so I’m hoping this forum could help.

Hi @Kbwi11iams,

Thank you for your question in PowerSchool Community!

Thank you @DanM3 for jumping in for assistance!

@Kbwi11iams, we do not encourage students to share their access credentials to anyone.  We recommend that you reach out to the school district to get further assistance on your requirement to see if they have any suggestions to meet this.
