I am taking over a course taught by a colleague. I have copied over all the student grades from Semester 1 into my own class for Semester 2. No new grades have been added. The Category weights are the same; the assignment weights/categories are the same. However, there is a slight discrepancy between many of the student averages in Semester 1 and Semester 2.
What else might account for the difference, other than what I specified above.
If the Term of a class changed (say from S1 to full-year) I believe the grade calculation reverts to Total Points. I would look to see if the Traditional Grade Calculation is the same for both sections.
Hi Jeff,
I went into Traditional Grade Calculations and the Category Weightings are the same in both semesters.
@kassandralynchAre the grade differences in the Qs or the final grade for the class? Without seeing how the gradebook is setup exactly I am just randomly guessing. For instance, in a Sem1 class I would normally see Q1, Q2 set up as total points/category weighting and Y1 set us as Term weighting consisting of the Terms Q1, Q2 and possible a term for an exam such as L1.
Did you copy the grades over manually? If so calculations for the Final grades are tied to the percentages so if you were to just copy over a final grade of an 85, but the percentage was 84.75...The calculations would be off whether or not the term calculations were accurate.

One other thing to look at is the drop low score option. We are on trimesters and the 12 weeks is broken down further between the first six weeks (P1) and the entire term (T1). Some teachers will say drop one low test score in T1 but not the first six weeks. This results in two different grades showing during the first six weeks.
