absent not truant. language is important
Can someone please change the language of the absence notification? Currently it says " your child was marked truant" Truant is a strong term that means absence without an excuse. It is also a crime in some places. You should not use such language without proof. In my case I get truant notifications after submitting an absence excuse form and emailing my child's teacher. This isn't remotely truancy. Language matters, even more so when coming from an education platform. This notification basically promotes ignorance by teaching parents the wrong terminology. Please change this. Look up what truancy means, especially the Wikipedia verbage. Not sending a sick child to school where they would be uncomfortable and spreading illnesses is not truancy it is responsible parenting.
