Schedules that take student preference of elective options into account

My school district currently uses PowerSchool for scheduling at the middle and high school. I’ve been asked to help with elective scheduling. I’ve been told that there is no way for students to prioritize their elective class choices in PowerSchool. Our students sign up online using PowerSchool in the Spring. They’re currently told to over select the classes they want and to pick every class they’re interested in, but we have no way of knowing whether they want to take “Creative Writing” over “Journalism,” or “Autoshop,” if they have selected all three. I’ve heard other districts with PowerSchool have a way that lets students prioritize their first, second and third picks. Is this true? We’d love to have that data and to be able to get students into the classes they truly want. Please help if you can!

Was there an answer to this question regarding prioritizing?

How do Priorities work for student requests?

Lower number equals higher priority in scheduling?

Or is it the opposite?

High number for student requests equals higher priority in scheduling?

The lower the number the higher the priority. If you were running the Auto-Fill Student Information function at a HS, it should look like it does in the attached screenshot.
