PowerScheduler Engine Download Won't Open

I am in the process of setting up PowerScheduler and I am to the point where I have to do the Engine Download. When I do this on my Mac book I get this error message:

"PSSchedEngine.pkg" can't be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software.

I have ran an update on my laptop and still receive this error message.

Have you tried going into your Mac's System Prefs > Security

There may be a message there that says some thing like PSSchedEngine.pkg is not an approved application would you like to Open anyway.

I tried this and don't see it on the list to approve at all. Any other suggestions?

@acook99   Just double checking...what Mac OS are you using? You can't be using anything higher than High Sierra.

My Mac made me download Big Sur last night when I was trying to get this to work. Is that higher than Mac OS?

@acook99

Unfortunately, PowerSchool has not developed the Scheduler engine to run on 64-bit and Mac OS Catalina and Big Sur only run 64-bit.

You will need to find a computer with an OS below Catalina. PowerSchool is aware of this issue and are suppose to be developing an updated 64-bit version of the engine.

Just unacceptable.  They've had plenty of time.  Still only a 32 bit program!

I was told last year that it would be available Spring 2021.  Nope.

Keep your new colors and stop working on other products.  Fix the SIS so that its usable.

Can anyone provide a timeframe?  Not that I'd trust it.

Hi @Michael_SS ,

Thank you for posting in the PowerSchool Community!  We understand your frustration and apologize for any inconvenience this issue may have caused. The plan to upgrade into a 64 bit is currently in development, and we do not have a timeline for when this functionality will be released. We encourage you to continue to use the workaround of using an older Mac or Windows PC.  You can find out more about the compatible versions here

Also, here’s an informative thread with more details from our development team on their plan

to remove the dependency of the Schedule Engine and do everything, Build and Load, on the server itself. I hope this information helps!

Again, thank you for your continued patience while we work towards a resolution.

Is there any update with the timeline of the release for the 64-bit for Mac users?

Thank you,

Stacey

Hello--

Is there a solution for this known issue yet?  I'm running Big Sur on my computer.

@brianvohden I was recently at a PS conference and heard, PS is working on this development right now and it should be complete within the next 1 or 2 major releases...I don't work for PS, so don't hold me accountable if the timeline does not pan out. I'm very excited to see this moving forward without having to rely on an engine.

Thanks @HeatherWeist for sharing that.

This is the second year we've built our schedule with this known issue.  Very frustrating!

Thank you @HeatherWeist for sharing the update you recently learned regarding the PowerScheduler Engine.

I wanted to let @brianvohden and others know that the PowerSchedule Build Engine is on the PowerSchool SIS Roadmap in the "In Progress" section. These product roadmaps in the PowerSchool Community to update on the status of projects.

If we can continue to help, please let us know!
