Missing Total Grade

Missing Total Grade

I have a few students whose total grade is not showing.  They have grades for their assignments, but the total grade is missing.  Has anyone had this issue and if so, how did you resolve it?

Without more details I'd have to make some assumptions.  Are you using the PowerTeacher Pro gradebook?

If so, check to make sure that the assignment grades that should be reflected in the final grade weren't accidentally set as exempt:

Also, check to make sure the assignments that should count toward the final grade are setup correctly and if you are using categories, that the assignment is listed with the correct category. Obviously, my setup is different and we use different categories, but in the image below ONLY assignments with these categories count in the final grade:

Another thing to check is to make sure that the final grade was not at one time overridden.  If you manually enter a final grade in that column, it doesn't matter what the assignment grades are as the system will use the grade entered. So if for some reason the final grade was deleted and saved, PTP gradebook will see that as a manual override and keep it blank. You will know if the grade has a manual override if there is a small triangle in the upper left of the score box:

Hi Doug!

First, thank you for your help! So, I ruled out all but one. I believe I could have overridden a grade or two in the past. However, I don't remember and not sure how to find out. Would you happen to know how I can find out this sort of information?

As @ItsOnlyDoug mentioned in his post...look at the final grade column. If you see the triangle then the grade was overridden at one time. You can click on the box, then click on the reverse circle in the score drawer. Let me know if this works for you.

Hi @Brownl16

When using PowerTeacher Pro, assignments or grades can disappear if either the teacher has deleted them or if the assignment is created in another reporting term. I recommend that you check the assignment date and compare it to the reporting term date first.

If you find the assignment but the grades is missing, you would want to make sure that the assignment grades that should be reflected in the final grade weren't accidentally set as exempt. Also, the final grade should not be overridden. If you manually enter a final grade in that column, it doesn't matter what the assignment grades are, the system will use the grade entered. So if for some reason the final grade was deleted and saved, the PTP grade book will see that as a manual override and keep it blank.
