Missing Pencil Icon when in "Edit Test" in Performance Matters

I noticed the pencil icon is missing in the Edit Test portion of Performance Matters.  Has that ability to edit an item while in the Edit Test page permanently gone?  It was such a wonderful feature that saved steps.

@Emmie1 Thank you for providing this information and confirming an example item ID.  We were able to determine there was a known issue with the edit option for items, but resolved in October 2021.

If you are continuing to experience this issue, please confirm if all of these conditions apply.

  1. You will want to confirm that you have all of the access levels for the Source, Read, Copy, Author, Update, and Admin.
  2. The item must be unlocked.  It should not be deleted, on High Stakes, locked, or With Results.  You can run a report to determine if the item was used in a test by navigating to My Reports> Administrative Reports.
  3. Test must be unlocked.

If you are continuing to experience the issue after confirming the three conditions apply, please provide a screenshot of your permissions for this source after covering the email addresses in the image and the Administrative report for the item to show it has not been applied to a previous test.

Hi @Emmie1,

Thank you for posting in the PowerSchool Community!

Once an item is on a test that is released, the pencil icon will disappear from the item because the item is no longer editable. Also, if the person does not have the permission to edit the item, the pencil icon will not appear on the item.

Please let us know if you have any more questions.  We will be happy to assist you!

Yes, thank you, Nina. 🙂  I am aware.  However, I have administrative permissions in my district and actually create the items for Math and Reading assessments.  In the past, I have been able to pull the items into a test, review for errors and make corrections while in the "edit test" portion; all the while utilizing the pencil icon.  I do not release a test to students, until the test has been checked for errors.  I have created two online assessments recently but the pencil icon has not been available at all.

Thank you for your attention.

Hi @Emmie1

You would have to check if the item is on any locked test. If yes, then the edit option gets disabled and the pencil icon disappears.

That makes perfect sense.

However, the items were new that I had created for the assessment.  I am still puzzled.

Hi @Emmie1

If you do not have ADMIN access to the item source from where the items come from, then you won't see the pencil icon.

You should be able to use the Magnifying Glass to find the items in the Global Search. If the item was used on any test assigned to students the access to editing the item will not be possible on your end.
