Mass import of OIDC/SSO global identifiers
We use Google SSO for our staff and students. I was told that a lot of our students could not log into PowerSchool. I found that a lot our students did not have an "Identity Provider Global ID" entered under Student Profile > User Access > Guardian and Student Account Access.
Our SIS Specialist submitted a case with PowerSchool tech support. They were only able to tell her how to run an export to find which students were missing their "Identity Provider Global ID". She asked me to look into it to see if I could find a way to perform an import since there were hundreds missing. This is the process I came up with. I wanted to share in case anyone else is in the same boat.
To do a mass import of SSO Global Identifiers, you'll need to do the following:
1. Create a spreadsheet with the Student DCID (from PowerSchool), SSO User Type (static value of "STUDENT"), and Global Identifier (SSO Username/Email). Save it as a CSV file.
2. In PowerSchool, go to Data and Reporting > Imports > Data Import Manager
3. Choose the file created in Step 1. Next to "Import Into", select "SSO User Mapping" from the pulldown menu. Next to "Field Delimiter", select "Comma" from the pulldown menu. Click the "Next" button.
4. The columns should automatically map. Click the "Next" button.
5. Leave the box checked and click the "Import" button.
6. The next screen will show the results of the import.
As a bonus, here's a list of all the different ways this data is labeled.
- Under Student Profile > User Access > Guardian and Student Account Access, the field is called "Identity Provider Global ID" and is displayed in plain text
- Under Data Export Manager > Category "Show All" > Export From "SSO Student Mapping", the field is called "Global Identifier" and is exported in plain text
- Under Data Export Manager > Category "Tables" > Export From "Students", the field is called "Student_Web_ID" and is exported in encypted text
- Under Data Import Manager > Import Into "SSO User Mapping", the field is called "Global Identifier"
