Class Selection Question

Hello! 

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask but I'm feeling lost.  I've registered my son as a brand new student going into 9th grade and I was curious how we go about selecting what classes he would like to take?  He's had private education up until this point so I'm totally confused and any help is greatly appreciated.
