Hello,
We are using PowerSchool Learning integrated with PowerSchool. A teacher asked me today how to add extra credit to an assignment. This is pretty easy in PowerTeacher Pro by using the Extra Points feature. For assignments that were created in PowerSchool Learning and synced to PowerTeacher Pro, the Extra Points feature doesn't work.
These directions didn't work for me. I didn't have a "Make this an extra credit assignment" checkbox. I assume that's because my class is linked to PowerSchool
The best work around I've found is to create a seperate 0 point assignment in PowerTeacher Pro and then add Extra Points to it. Does anyone have a better work around?
It would be nice if Extra Points was an option on the assignment screen in PowerSchool Learning.
Thanks,
-Travis

Good Afternoon @traviscullitan!
Thank you for your post. The method you have posed is the best known workaround at this time. That said, I have gone ahead and submitted a feature request to our Product Team on your behalf to include an extra credit assignment checkbox. Thank you for your feedback and we invite any other users who have found an alternative means to please share their input as well!

It would be better to have an "allow overage" checkbox on each assignment.
Thank you for your response!
I have added your suggestion to the feature request that was provided to the Product Team!
I'm having some of the same difficulties with adding 'bonus points' to PowerTeacher Pro (as I've done over the past several years) by creating a homework assignment and setting the points possible to zero, changing the weight to 0.1, and adding a significant number of extra points to that assignment - that's worked very well for me over the years. However, this year when I create an extra credit column, I can add points right away but then when I go to the Assignment List, it's nowhere to be found --AND-- any points I've added have zero effect on students' grades... Any ideas?
Same is happening to me. We were instructed to create an extra credit assignment (We don't want to add extra points, we want it all to be extra points) But when we make it worth zero, no amount of points make the student grades go up. Not unless I made it worth at least 1 point. I have tried categorizing it as an assessment (which is worth 35% of the grade in my book) and weighing it double but still nothing UNLESS I make it worth at least 1 point, but my school is very clear that they don't want us to put a point value (only an extra point value). It looks like this wasn't responded to back in Oct 2020. It's April 21. Any news yet?
Hi @nstevens402 and @cmocarski4
We recommend checking with your District or Administrators if the option of adding the extra points was enabled this year. Administrators have the ability to disable this feature.
If you have confirmed it is enabled, please provide us with a screenshot of the settings for the extra credit assignment.
I am very new to PowerSchool Pro. Is there a way to add Extra Credit if you have a traditional 100 point grading scale? When I make my assignments worth 100 points I don't have the Extra Credit bottom. Please, explain in detail as I am not at all "techy". Thank you.
The Administrators have the ability to allow extra points for an assignment. You would have to check with your District or Administrators if the option of adding the extra points is enabled.
You can view more information about extra points for an assignment in this document on categories-and-assignments.
I am the PS admin and I am wondering where I would turn on the extra credit. I have looked all over and don't see that anywhere.
Hi @sbigdenrussell
We recommend reviewing the document Set Categories at the District for more information on Extra Points.
