I am a General Music Specialist in Shelby County which is in Birmingham, Alabama. I teach at Oak Mountain Intermediate School. I am a National Board Certified teacher and have been teaching general music and elementary choir for 21 years.
I also have a masters in elementary education with a specialization in literacy. I include literacy skills in my music curriculum. This year I am teaching pull-out fluency classes during our intervention time each morning. I combine fluency skills with music skills. We included instrumental music while we're reading, and we also include sound effects with instruments. My students are really motivated and excited to come to class. The data has been very encouraging, and I am excited to see what the spring semester holds.
I have also written a book called Stories That Sing, that integrates reading skills in music activities. There are 17 story book lessons included, covering PreK through 5th grade students. These lessons are classroom tested and very effective.
I look forward to being a part of this community!
