Teachers: What do you like/dislike about Unified Classroom?

We are considering moving to Unified Classroom with PS Learning in the next year or so. Currently, we use PowerSchool 11.0.5 with eBackpack as our LMS. I'm interested in how teachers like UC and Learning. Please tell me what you like as well as what you see as challenges. How difficult was the transition from the traditional PowerSchool and a previous LMS? If we make a change, it's very important the end result is worth any hassles the teachers have to deal with. Thanks for your comments. :-)

Re: Teachers: What do you like/dislike about Unified Classroom?

I am not a teacher but the Director of Technology. We used UC and PS Learning last semester at a pilot and it went fine. This year we deployed it and encountered many inconsistencies between all the different platforms in UC. The idea is pretty good but the system needs to mature and PowerSchool needs to do a better job in communicating improvements, glitches so we don't replicate our efforts.

So far:

- PS Learning in UC has limited functionalities. I know some schools use PS Learning stand-alone and have better feedback.

- We encountered many connection issues and our teachers and students became frustrated

- There is still a link between UC and the old Parental Portal, so it is confusing where to go.

- You don't take attendance in UC, you actually go to the old version of PowerTeacher to take attendance.

I am really wishing everything gets sorted out this year or at least we get a commitmment from PowerSchool about the improvements or we will move in another direction.

Daniela ... Thanks for the reply. This is exactly what I wanted to know. There are always growing pains with a new product. My teachers have had several changes in the past few years; I don't want to move them to something that still needs to mature.

I hope your issues get worked out soon. Good luck!

Re: Teachers: What do you like/dislike about Unified Classroom?

The PowerSchool ID creation process using the SIS creditails has been a nightmare for us.  We have over 7k students and 4.5k families.  Kids signing up wrong parents signing up as kids and the other way around.  The UC Admin dasboard is very limited and we cant fix our problems.  Having kids and families manually create the accounts is just a mess.  I understand that the PS ID acts as a single sign on but there has to be a better way.

Also, the time lapse moving betwenn programs.

There are a lot of things we like about the program.  We have really put a lot of faith in PowerSchools ability to keep advancing and really focus on this product.

A mobile app at least for grades and communication would be nice.  Parents still access everything thoguh a mobile device and kids having to use thier old SIS credentials is crating confusion

Thanks for sharing your issues. A new product always has its growing pains and I'm not sure I want to take them on. What things do you like about the program? What's working well? How do the teachers like PS Learning?

Thanks!

Re: Teachers: What do you like/dislike about Unified Classroom?

Everything is in one place.  the dashboard really is great. All the assignments in PTP and events go into a kids calendar.  The LMS component is right there.  Teh teachers like that.  We are also using PS Assessment and SPED.  It shows a vision of everythign in one place.  Like I said this whole using the SIS info to create a new ID is just a bad process.  No matter how clear you are people dont follow directions.  Teachers do liek it once they are comfortable. There are familiar parts since it ties in the SIS and PTP
