How to disable UC modules for parents PLEASE!

Hello All,

We are thinking in opening UC for parents but do not want them to go into "Standards Progress" which is really PowerTeacher Pro and also don't wan them to go to "Communications --> Messages" as this is showing all the students previous teachers over the years.

Does anyone have done this or not? We only want parents to see ClassPages and the UC dashboard for now.

Cheers,

Yes we checked this summer about having the messages deleted.  We dont want parents sending IMs to teachers.  Have teachers and parents go back in forth in that mannor is not the best format for us.  We also noticed previous years teachers

We have managed to disable in the SIS the "parent/student portal access" so when a parent or a student goes to Unified Classroom --> Progress --> Standards Progress they DON'T go to PowerTeacher Pro to generate report cards and all the other features that can be disabled but always visible.

One win for us!

Re: How to disable UC modules for parents PLEASE!

Hello Daniela,

PowerSchool does not recommend turning the "parent/student portal access" setting off because while it may acheive what you were hoping, it can cause other issues with the Unified Classroom. At this time, access to the features in Unified Classroom are setup to be all encompassing for all users. Once logged in, the idea is that a Parent can become hands on to all aspects of their child's learning experience.

Thank you for your understanding.

@adamc Thanks for the reply.

If "Unified Classroom" is the new one stop solution for parents/students, then why they need to click something to be directed to the Parental Portal (with a total different feeling and layout) where there are options that can be disabled but still visible? The "Unified Classroom" defeats the purpose then.

Can you be more specific at what Unified Classroom's issues we can encounter? I need to know what are we dealing with as we might need to move away from Unified Classroom.

Thanks,

Re: How to disable UC modules for parents PLEASE!

Hello Daniela,

Thank you for your feedback! The disable "parent/student portal access" settings were put in place for the PowerSchool SIS standalone product and by disabling it, you are taking away the "Unified" piece for Parent/Student users because you are disabling their access to the PowerSchool SIS. Given that Unified Classroom works by allowing users to SSO into PowerSchool SIS pages along with other products that your district uses, disabling Parent/Student Access can cause issues for Parent/Student users that include but are not limited to: logout issues, error messages, and unsuccessful redirects.

Thank you for your understanding.
