My subject title pretty much sums it up - Are there any plans for future develpment for PS Learning (Haiku) now that Schoology is being purchased by PowerSchool? How much longer will PSL be offered?
I'm sure they have some ideas, but the actual sale (if finalized) is still 45 days away. I don't think the stand alone PowerSchool Learning product will be around much longer given this sentence of the press release. "Adding Schoology’s best-in-class LMS to PowerSchool’s award-winning Unified Classroom™ will create an industry-first classroom solution to empower teachers with personalized learning functionality to improve education outcomes for every student. "
You beat me to this! Things are kind of making sense now of why PS Learning wasn't getting much "love". This brings up my biggest question though, do we continue to teach teachers how to use PS Learning AND what does the transfer of PS Learning content to Schoology look like.....??
I really want to see how this all plays out. This is big new for people who use Class Pages/Learning in UC. Schoology has very strong collaboration and digital workflow as well as an assessment component. We had been very concerned about the attention PS was paying to Learning and this seems to be why. What does that do to Messages and UC Assignment and UC Assessment?
I personally hope that PowerSchool learned a lot from the integration of learning. I would love to just see UC Dashboard as a gateway to the full features of what schoology has. Get rid of messages, calendar, assessment
I guess for now you can only speculate.
I would assume that this would be a whole new implementation just like learning was. I am sure you will have to pay up and get PD too. I feel like they will let school use PS Learning until they want to pay an implementation for schoology.
I believe that schoology should be able to extract teachers content in Learning and upload into thier platform. Individually a teacher can pull a common cartridge file.
Thank you for reaching out about this through our Community! PowerSchool is excited to announce that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Schoology, a leading K-12 learning management system (LMS). We expect the acquisition to close within the next 45 days. Until the transaction closes, PowerSchool and Schoology will continue to operate as two separate companies. Once the transaction is closed, we will share additional information about how Schoology and PowerSchool (including PowerSchool Learning) customers will benefit from our combined presence, whose focus will continue to be on powering the education ecosystem with unified technology.
I hope this is helpful!
On this week's episode of the PowerSchool Insiders, Jason Sprangel referred to a PowerSchool-Schoology FAQ which contains more information than the email and press release from last week.
For some strange reason there is no link to this FAQ on any of the PowerSchool websites nor can you search for it in PowerSource or here in the community.
Well, all the FAQs, press releases, and interviews make it sound as though PS does not have PSLearning at all... just that Schoology will be bringing the magic that's been missing to the mix. This may be the begining of the end for ex-Haiku orgs that only use PSL (and nothing else from the PS product line.)
It seems that the value and benefit of the integration of Schoology into Unified Classroom will be the amazing app associated with Schoology. Haiku/Pages remains 10 years behind industry best practices because it doesn't have an app that seamlessly works on iOS and Android devices without the need for a web browser and very very clunky interfaces. For this reason alone teachers in my district are excited for this acquisition/merger as the student experience will be vastly improved with a top line LMS.
We are as well. But just like with Learning offering features that are in UC Like calendar and messaging and the overlap. Personally I would just like to see all that done in Schoology. Get rid of the comunication component of UC and the assignment activity list and UC scoring. It all just adds confusion. I really hope UC just acts as a gatweay to get to schoology and use all the features. Or we can just use the powerschool ID to get into schoology.com The whole thing that worries us is if PowerSchool tries to "Unify" schoology in the UC Dashboard. We took a pretty big gamble on UC with the vision and it has been challenging. Yes Learning is the same product it was as Haiku 7 years ago. We would welcome getting a tool like schoology in the hands of our staff even though it is a big move since we invested in Class Pages/Learning
I get that nothing definitive can really be shared about the impact that the acquisition of Schoology will have until the deal finally closes in a month or so. But, I hope that the powers that be will be making it very clear what the roadmap really is once the deal finally closes as quickly as possible beyond just the mutual adoration group hug that was the announcement of the purchase. Is PowerSchool throwing in the towel on trying to integrate the Haiku LMS purchase into Unified Classroom as PowerSchool Learning? It certainly has been a rocky road. And are they going to replace it with Schoology? Or will Schoology become an alternate LMS to PowerSchool Learning for PowerSchool SIS customers? Or did PowerSchool simply want access to Schoology's customer base to push Unified Classroom to them and they will continue to market Schoology as a separate entity? It is difficult to know what to tell our administrators and teachers what it means when one of the first investments after the spin off was in the Haiku LMS and now "soon" afterward comes the purchase of yet another competitior in the LMS market. Is Canvas next and then on to Blackboard?
Thank you for reaching out regarding Schoology and our future roadmap. I'm happy to share that more information will be made available to you in the coming weeks about the acquisition and the planned roadmap. We can share here as we have more details and you can also check for updates on powerschool.com.
Well it looks like it is out. Schoology Learning. I can only hope PowerSchool doesn't limit the tools within Schoology when attempting to "Unify" it and learned from what hey did with Haiku. Haiku wasn't the best but every feature they had was better then what was in UC yet they wanted you to use UC messaging, assessments, assignments, calendar, etc. I am excited to get Schoology in teacher shands but can only hope that there is a Good plan
@jhanlon It definitely looks lik they are abandoning PowerSchool Learning and Haiku for Schoology!
We're very interested in the "plan" as PS Learing is the only component we use (as an old Haiku customer...)
The lack of product/feature development, decreasing support, and odd-ball functionality outages have been getting worse the farther we get from the Haiku acquisition. I understand that the focus is on integrated suite stuff w/ their own SIS, but it the product is showing its age to my teachers, students and parent populations.
@hernick Be sure to signup for next week's webinar that should help explain in more detail the roadmap.
Thank you for sharing the PowerSchool-Schoology FAQs! @DanM3
I recommend reviewing the PowerSchool-Schoology FAQs page to help answer any questions you may have regarding the acquisition of Schoology. We are continuing to update the Powerschool - Schoology page to provide updates during this period. We have recently uploaded a video from Hardeep Gulati, CEO of PowerSchool, and Jeremy Friedman, Schoology Co-Founder and CEO, that discusses the recent announcement and how the acquisition can improve the customer experience for PowerSchool users.
You can view the PowerSchool - Schoology FAQs page using this direct link.
So, no real info from the schoology webinar re: roadmap for existing Learning customers.
Posted a question to the feed and was told I'll get a follow up.
Q Curious about powerschool learning plans for PSL-only schools
I totally agree!!!!
I just finished the webinar and it was all about reassuring Schoology customers about their roadmap forward and, literally, not one mention of PowerSchool Learning customers and their way forward. I posted two questions regarding PowerSchool Learning. Both went unanswered. They say they will get back to me. I guess I will have to see. This webinar was extremely frustrating for us who are PowerSchool Unified Classroom/PowerSchool Learning customers. Lots of praise about how Schoology is the best in class LMS. So what is that admitting about what PSL has been these last few years? Obviously it must not be the best regardless of what the sales people told us.
Agree 100%. I posted question on same topic and recieved zero repsonse. We have another webinar with our PS rep in just a few minutes. I will ask the same question to her.
