Office 365 and Learning Permissions

We are an Office365 district.  We are seeing that when a teacher uploads a file from onedrive it is actually a link to the file and access is restricted to students.  The same when a student uploads an assignment form OneDrive to the teacher.  Does anyone else encounter this?  What is the proper workflow that should be happening?

Hi @jhanlon,

Thank you for your post!  I understand this is an issue for students and teachers.  Per the information you provided, I recommend contacting support to get a case started, if you haven't already.  Especially, in the case of any error message or unexpected behaviour result.  Support will be able to test and troubleshoot to determine the actual cause.

I hope this information is useful!

Best,

Did you ever find a resolution to this problem? We are having the same issue. When a teacher links a file from OneDrive to the Class Page, student get an access denied when clicking the link.

I am new to PowerSchool and didn't post anything.  How did you see this?

No, we havent.  Seems like powerschool is putting more resources into UC funcations even though the learning platform is so much better.

Thank you for participating in the PowerSchool Community!

Can you confirm the permissions within the document are set to be viewed by anyone that has access to the link?

Re: Office 365 and Learning Permissions

I hadn't changed any permissions on the file in OneDrive. My assumption was that when I ask PowerSchool Learning to attached a file, that it would automatically generate a link that anyone could access.

Are you telling me that before I attached the file to a page in PowerSchool Learning I need to set the permissions level to allow anyone to view my files? That doesn't seem right.

Re: Office 365 and Learning Permissions

Thank you for your response!

That is correct.  The access to the file is controlled by the owner of the file.  The owner will want to change the permission to allow other users to either view or edit the file before sharing the file.  Users can set permissions to allow anyone with the link to access the file.

Re: Office 365 and Learning Permissions

Can you confirm the teachers are selecting the 'handout option' instead of the view option?

Microsoft files and Google Drive files can be added to an assignment as a Handout. Choosing to create a handout generates a copy of the file that the student can edit. When the student opens the file, a copy is automatically created that has the student's name at the end of the file title.
