We know that this time of year many schools are changing terms. Questions often arise during this process and we are here to help!

We recommend starting with this article on transitioning your Learning classes to a new term.

Re: Have questions about Learning term transitions?

Getting mixed messages… When wanting to make a new semester course (same content/lessons for 2nd semester with a new group of students, in 1 or more sections), should teachers copy over Activities (Assignments, Assessments, Wikis, Discussions) or NOT?

 Thanks!

Re: Have questions about Learning term transitions?

Hi @crathsack,

Thank you for posting in our PowerSchool Community! Our Learning term transition resources are applicable across student information systems. In our latest article, we have included a note specifically for our Learning customers who use PowerSchool SIS, which includes instructions to uncheck graded items. This option works best with how terms are configured in PowerSchool SIS. We are looking into an update to make this step match the more general behavior so that those items can remain checked. When there is an update, we'll be sure to reflect that in the article as well. We hope this helps clarify. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

Thanks again for your post!

Re: Have questions about Learning term transitions?

Thank you for clarifying!

So, does this mean that any assignment, assessment, or discussion, etc. will have to be: 1) redone from scratch, or 2) copied from an old course or, 3) pulled from the library? Or is there an easier/quicker way to have those graded activities "ready to go" for the new course/class since teachers have to uncheck them from being copied to the new course/class and they won't already be in there.

Re: Have questions about Learning term transitions?

Thanks for the follow up question @crathsack

You don’t need to start from scratch. One suggestion is that you can copy all the content into an empty/no roster class (one that you don’t plan to connect with a roster or gradebook). You can do this by using the Manage Class > Save Class As feature we discussed above. Since you will not be actually connecting this copy of the class with a gradebook or roster, you can go ahead and leave all the items checked on the list. Then you can modify those assignments, assessments, etc. with the new term dates., and then you can copy those items one by one, as you are ready to assign them into the next term’s class that has your roster, gradebook, etc.

Let us know if you have any additional questions we can help with!

Re: Have questions about Learning term transitions?

Thanks! That’s what I was going to suggest… and keep the class as a Rough Draft or copy-house (so to speak). Good to know that should work at least. We'll give it a try...
