Feature Request - "Grade What If Scenario"

It would be helpful if there was a "what if scenario".

Imagine sitting down with a student, or both parent and student.

You click a button and are put in "what if" mode.

In that mode you can change any grade up or down and you are shown what your total grade might be.

I envision a lot of great conversations would be possible including:

  • If you could re-take this exam-quiz-assignment, your grade would improve by ____ %
  • If you could complete this zero assignment, your grade would improve by ____ %
  • If you do at least ___% on this assignment, your grade will/will not change

Teachers believe that knowledge is power, and yet gradebooks continue to hide/obscure grading policies.  It is time to bring weights, and drop-lowest, and hidden extra credit opportunities and other arcane and byzantine policies into the light of day and allow students to better prioritize their efforts and parents to gain insight into what really matters in their student's grades.

Re: Feature Request - "Grade What If Scenario"

Canvas LMS now has this feature.  PowerSchool needs to have this feature as well.  It has now been commoditized like CTRL+C and CTRL+V support.  If you don't have this, you will soon be irrelevant.

Re: Feature Request - "Grade What If Scenario"

I get this asked from teachers. If I'm not mistaken, it was a feature in the old java gradebook.

This should not be an issue for teachers, the students should try their hardest to make the best grade and parents should expect that out of them...not "what grade is good enough" for me to get whatever final grade. That's a parent/student issue, not a powerschool issue.

@MDeFore

So if you take away all weighting, extra credit points and other "tricks" in gradebooks and just allow points then I will agree with you that we don't need gradebook transparency.
