Assignments in Learning not possible for SBG Schools

Good morning,

When creating an assignment in Class Pages (PS Learning in UC), there is a mandatory points value to add which it makes worthless for SBG (Standards-based grading) schools. Is there a future release that when creating an assignment in Class Pages:

1) Categories can be assigned and teachers do not have to go to scoresheets as default category is Classwork

2) Assignments can have no value but standards can be aligned there and not go to scoresheet

Thanks,

I have asked for an enhancement request for this.  It's definitely something that PS is going to need to address as more and more schools need SBG functionality.

Hi @KElms and @DSilva!

Thank you for posting in the Community!

With regard to standards-based grading, one of the following is a possible option when creating an assignment and having it associated with standards in some capacity: 1) an assignment can be created in class pages, but then the user will have to use points and standards. 2) The alternative would be to create a UC Basic assignment with just standards. With the second option, it currently does not enable users to put the assignment on a page, but it can be assigned with just standards. Hope this helps!

@joshk

With all due respect, it doesn't help. We understand there are approximations that we can do, but what we want is full functionality.  We want to be able to build activities and assignments that students can interact with and gather evidence of their proficiency and understanding against a learning target.  As more and more schools embrace standards- and competency-based practices, your product will not meet our needs if it doesn't respond to the customer base.  In such a scenario, we would be forced to drop the PS suite and look elsewhere.

Re: Assignments in Learning not possible for SBG Schools

Hi @joshk,

We are in the same boat at my school. We are in the process of adopting Unified Classroom, but it does not appear that it will fully meet our needs as we move towards standards-based grading (and ultimately competency based grading). We may also be looking elsewhere for a system that includes that functionality.

@DSilva @KElms Thank you for raising this issue.
