Hi @kflowers - Is the class an imported one from the SIS or a manually created one? Imported rosters may have restrictions since the role will always be a student. Are you able to see that kid already in the roster?
Check your Domain Control settings for Classes. If you set the option for Allow teachers to override the imported roster then you can make a student a teacher.
The imported roster settings is a good one to check, thank you for suggesting that! Also, please note that a user can only be on the roster of a class with one role. If a user is already on there as a student, that may be the cause of what you are seeing as well. If your roster settings allow you to make changes, it is possible to remove the student and then add that user as a teacher in the class, if that is the role you would like to assign to them.
The following article from the PowerSchool Community Knowledge Base may be a helpful reference on roles in roster settings: https://help.powerschool.com/t5/Learning-Account-Management/How-do-account-roles-and-roster-roles-wo...
