Mac OS Catalina error when opening: "Unable to launch the application"

Until last week, I've been able to open and use Gradebook on my Macbook. (I believe there was a java update - I'm not sure if that is a coincidence) and now I am receiving an error message that says "Unable to launch the application" as soon as Gradebook opens. The only options from there are to either click "ok" and the application will close, or you can click "details" which opens a small window with a bunch of 'codes etc. that says 'launch file' or 'exception'. I've spoken to many others who are experiencing this same issue as of last week and cannot open Gradebook anymore.
