Since PowerSchool apparently doesn't offer end-user support, I'm hoping someone here will have a definitive answer.
We're using Power Teacher 184.108.40.206.1. We've been told this version of Gradebook absolutely requires a specific version of Java, and under no circumstances to allow Java to update itself.
Now, I don't really buy that answer, because backward compatibility. And I'm also not keen on allowing an obsolete version of the horrible mistake that is Java loose on my home network.
So, can anyone please confirm that I can safely update Java, or will I be risking sending my laptop for re-imaging?
Thanks very much.
I know this doesn't answer your question, but is there any reason you aren't using PowerTeacher Pro?
PT Pro is part of PowerSchool and wouldn't be any additional cost to your district--it can even be selected as the gradebook on a per-section basis so your admin can make your sections PT Pro with no impact on any other teachers. It is fully HTML-based and, honestly, a few minor gripes aside, a far better gradebook. Might be worth a shot to ask. I can send you the Quick Reference Guide if don't have a PowerSource account and can't access it.
That would be a wonderful way of sidestepping the issue entirely. Thank you for the suggestion, I will mention that to our IT boffin and see what he says. No need for the reference guide just yet, but I may revisit your offer in the future.
@JAC70 I taught English for 13 years and I have now learned a new word. "Boffin." 😂 Love it.
