Compliance Menu --> Additional Information Page --> Homeless Data Field and MV Admin Practices

PowerSchool Users,

How does your district handle the "Homeless Information" Data Fields? It is my understanding based on MV status with Federal Law as guidance, supported by information from the NHCE, in my case the Indiana DOE, and guidance I've researched from many other state DOEs that;

1.) The "Start Date" field is populated once MV Status is verified by district liaisons or school officials in charge of MV students and those who act as stewards their MV documentation. In our case, our district liaison is responsible for entry/editing this field.

2.) The "End Date" should NOT be prepopulated for any reason. Currently, the practice by our district liaison is to enter the last day of the school year as the "End Date"

It is my understanding that the "End Date" should only be entered when the student is no longer eligible as MV due to their living arrangements becoming fixed, regular, and adequate based on a variety of factors. Once that occurs and the student exits MV status, the end date entered in the field (along with other documentation as prescribed by district/state processes/protocols). Our district's practice of entering an end date is resulting in a black out period. This blackout period has been from the day after the last day of the student's school year (end of may) and through late August/Early November until the liaison completes "carry over" work, verifications, and PS data entry. This has caused many issues, which are not pertinent to this discussion but they need to be rectified by improving our processes/protocols.

Can anyone provide some feedback on how your district handles the "Homeless Information" data fields of "Start Date" and "End Date"?

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

This isn't a district thing; it's a State/Province Reporting thing and will be dictated by the reporting requirements where you live. I would post this in your (Indiana) State Reporting forum:

My guess is my account is limited to certain levels of access.

Thanks for the head's up!

I think one of the accounts you tagged is a mod. Ask them for access.
