I'm struggling with getting my gradebook set up. I'm in PowerTeacher Pro.
In all of my classes, there are numerous missing assignments. Even so, I need to show students (and parents) what their current class grade is.
I tried in one class and marked each assignment missing (for those missing) and all other assignments were given their grade (points).
Now, I'm trying to publish the grades and the letter class grade isn't appearing. Can someone provide the steps for how to publish grades even when students have incomplete assignments?
@lewha The only settings you have access to as a teacher are in PT Pro. Assignments will be created with their Category Defaults for the "Publish" tab, but you can edit each individual assignment. Blank assignment scores should be published to the portal as --/XX for assignments. It is possible that your PS Admin has suppressed letter grades from the Portal.
I have attached some screenshots for reference.
@JeffG9 Thanks for the reply.
I'm still having a hard time. Here's my scoresheet for the class in question. I also have each assignment set to immediately publish. And yet, I'm still not able to get a grade to show up/be published. Is there something else that I should put in the score box for each missing assignment? Any ideas on how to get the grade to publish? Thanks!
Ahhhh it looks like you aren't asking about assignment scores showing up in the Portal but an actual Term Grade (S1 if I am reading correctly).
PT Pro is not calculating the S1 grade.
I see you are using category weighting. Are the assignments in Categories that are part of the weighting? Are the grade calculations for the S1 reporting term set to calculate a final grade?
If you could provide:
Your Category Weighting page for that section/reporting term
Your assignment list with categories
We can investigate further. Too bad you aren't in one of my support districts--I'd just check out your PT Pro from the Admin side.
Here's some more info: our charter network has decided that Summative work has a 60% weight and formative 40%.
I had assumed that all Classwork/Project/Quiz/Test would go into the Formative category. But it looks like that might be separate? I wanted to provide parents with a breakdown by category under the Formative umbrella.
I've come into the semester one month late, so things are very messy.
That's the answer: the Category Weighting for S1 only contains the Formative and Summative categories. This weighting has been pushed out from the Admin side (see the little house) and teachers cannot edit it.
Any assignment not in the Formative or Summative category will not factor into the S1 grade.
@JeffG9 So there's no way to set a "rule" so that Classwork can fall under formative?
No, Categories are separate entities.
