Ability to search using any part of a student's last name

It is critical in an emergency situation to have the ability to search any part of a student's last name.  We had a situation where outside staff knew part of the student's last name but office staff were only able to find the student after searching Last_Name contains.  In an emergency situation seconds count.  For instance if student's last name is Smith Jones it would be beneficial to be able to search jones and have any students that contain that last name populate.

I'm sure you have done this, but you can search last_name contains and find anyone with any part of the last name you type behind the contains.

You can use the @ symbol to search part of a student's name as well from the search box in PowerSchool

So if you know the kid's name begins with Mc but aren't sure about the rest:

Mc@

Will pull all kids that start with Mc. Can be used for any combo. Not sure if a kid's name is spelled Stanley or Stanlee just do Stanl@ and you will get both or the one you need.

And more to your specific issue, if there is a hyphen in the name you can do @- and that will pull all the kids with a hyphen.
