Use the Item Writing Tools to edit items.

*Note: When using the Item Writing Tools, brackets containing HTML code will appear. The text that should be formatted using these tools will need to be entered between the brackets containing HTML code. A user may either click the button for the appropriate formatting and manually enter the text between the brackets, or they may highlight the text to be formatted and click the appropriate button which will automatically insert the text between the brackets.

1. “Toggle Editing Button” – The “Toggle” button allows users to alternate between an editable view of an item and a preview of the published version.Toggle-Button.png

 

2. “Fraction Button” – The “Fraction” button allows the user to enter a fraction into a stem, answer, or distracter field. HTML code will appear. Replace the “x” with the value of the numerator and replace the “y” with the value of the denominator. Continue to type the rest of the item.Fraction-Button-768x121.png3. “Superscript Button” – Click the “Superscript” button to apply the superscript function to part of a stem, answer, or distracter. HTML code will appear and the necessary value for the superscript may be entered.Superscript-Button.png

4. “Subscript Button” – Click the “Subscript” button to apply the subscript function to part of a stem, answer, or distracter. HTML code will appear and the necessary value for the subscript may be entered.

5. “Overline Button”– Click the “Overline” button to insert a character that needs to appear with a line over it in the provided HTML code.Overline-Button.png

 

6. “Square Root Button” – Click on the “Square Root” icon to insert characters that should appear under the radical sign in the HTML code that appears.Square-Root-Button.png

 7. “Underline Button” – Click on the “Underline” icon to enter text that should appear underlined in the HTML code that appears.Underline-Button.png

8. “Italics Button” – Click on the “Italics” icon to enter the text that should appear italicized in the HTML code that appears.Italicize-Button-768x113.png

 

9. “Border Button” – Click on the “Border” icon to insert the text that should appear inside a bordered text box in the HTML code.Text-Box-Button.png

 

10. “Dash Button”– Click on the “Dash” icon to insert a dash within the body of the selected field.Dash-Button-768x122.png

 11. “Figure Button”– Click on the “Figure” icon to insert a figure in the selected field. Please refer to the section titled “Add a Figure” for additional information.Figure-Button-768x117.png

 

12. “Numbered Lines Button”– Click on the “Numbered Lines” icon to create a numbered list or to number paragraphs within the selected field.Numbered-Lines-Button.png

 13. “Symbol Button” – Click on the “Symbol” button to expand a drop down menu containing several available symbols (e.g. ©, ®, Δ, ≥, or →, etc.). Click a symbol to automatically insert it into the body of the selected field.Symbol-Button.png
