Cut scores default to seventy percent and reveal the percentage of student who passed a specific exam. Cut scores may be customized because teachers’ exams, specifically benchmark exams, are not held to the same rigor as state standardized tests.
*Note: PowerSchool Assessment is designed to return the default cut score to 70% at the end of each session in “Reporting.” To clarify, if the cut score is changed in one subject then another subject is selected, the custom cut score that was set will remain the cut score that appears until you refresh your browser or go to another module of PowerSchool Assessment & Analytics. Then, upon returning to “Reporting,” the cut score will be defaulted back to 70%. Unfortunately, there is no way to save a customized cut score at this time.
To customize cut scores:
1. Click “Reporting.” 2. Select the “Subject” and “Exam” from the appropriate drop-down menus. 3. Click the “Cut Score (70%)” drop-down menu, indicated by a blue arrow in the following image. 4. Select “Custom…” from the drop-down menu, indicated by the pink arrow. A new cut score percentage may be entered. To ensure that the percentage rounds correctly, enter the number as a decimal.
*Note: When the cut score is changed, it changes the percentage of students who pass. For example, the pass rate would be higher when the cut score is set to 70% than it would be if the cut score was set to 80%.
A customized cut score can be returned to its default setting. 1. Click the “Cut Score (70%)” drop-down menu, indicated with a blue arrow in the following image. 2. Select “Default (70%)” from the drop-down menu, indicated with a pink arrow in the following image.
