That’s a great and very common question — and you’re not imagining it. The newer version of SchoolSpring (since it was migrated to the PowerSchool Unified Talent platform) works differently from the old one.

Here’s what’s going on:

💡 Why your status isn’t changing

Statuses are now controlled by the district, not SchoolSpring itself.

In the old system, SchoolSpring automatically updated statuses (e.g., “Under Review,” “Interview Scheduled,” “Position Filled”).

In the new Unified Talent version, each school district or HR office must manually update those statuses.

Most districts don’t — they just leave applications at “Application Received” or “In Progress” and handle communication separately (by email or phone).

“Job filled” doesn’t automatically trigger an update anymore.

When a posting is closed, your status won’t change unless HR specifically updates it in their system.

So, it’s normal to still see “Application Received” even if the job was filled or removed.

You’ll usually only see a change if you’re moved forward.

If a district actively uses the internal workflow tools, you might see “Interview Scheduled” or “Not Selected.”

But that’s the exception now, not the rule.

🧭 What you can do

Don’t assume no status change = rejection. Many schools don’t update it at all.

If it’s been a few weeks and you want clarity, it’s fine to email the district HR office or the contact listed in the posting to politely ask if the position has been filled.

Keep applying — the system doesn’t penalize you for having “stuck” statuses.

Or you can send a message to HR

I have applied for two jobs in recent months. The first one was filled, job post was removed, but my status never chanegd from "Application Received". The second one also hasn't changed in status, although it's only been a week so there's still time.

I remember with the "old" SchoolSpring, the status would change as my application was reviewed, if I got an interview, hired/not hired, etc. Do the application statuses still change, or is that a thing of the past?
