We have a very fluid population. We serve many students who need credit recovery for a semester or quarter. Most of our students enroll with us after freshman year for their cohort. We traditionally scheduled each class by semesters, so we could have flexibility in meeting student needs.

This school year we changed to scheduling by the year for core classes and are now facing an issue. Many students, at semester, need to drop a section of a year long course and add an elective or the second semester of a different yearlong course. Many students need to change sections of a yearlong course in order to fit other courses they need. It is reported some online curriculum for core courses deletes the data from the previous semester if we try to schedule sections by semester. If we keep them as year long courses the data will remain even if they change sections. We had to manually change schedules for about 70% of our students by using the effective date for year long courses to change sections at semester.

I find it hard to believe that a reputable curriculum provider would create software with this characteristic. Does anyone have any experience with something like this or ideas for a solution?

Thank you,
