Update Section Expression

Hi all,

I would like to update the expression of a section which is already having few attendance records.

It is fine to clear the attendance records and proceed, however it throws me the below warning.

Record not saved
Updates to the schedule expression will orphan associated attendance records.

Any luck?

You have to go into DDE

Open the Section record and go to the very bottom, grab the SectionID
2. Now go to DDE > CC table and search for that SectionID
3. This should give you 17 CC records - write down the ID of each of these CC records
4. Go to DDE > Attendance table and search for the CCID for each of those ID's of CC records
CCID = ID of each of the CC records you found in step 3 - you will need to delete all attendance in the background in order to change a period on a section.

Unless you are very comfortable working in DDA to move attendance (which I will not get into here), you will need to create a new section with the correct expression, drop all the students from the old section and enroll them into the new.

I have the same question. How do I either bypass the denial OR clear the attendance records? (I looked and there actually aren't any visible attendance records for this section at all!)

This thread says "5 Replies" but the replies are not visible (to me — or apparently to another user)

I am assuming you are trying to change the expression on a section and getting the "Will Orphan Attendance" error. There is no way to bypass the denial.

Yes, you can delete all the attendance via DDA, but the easiest thing to do is create a new section with the correct expression, drop the students from the old and enroll into the new. Teachers can transfer grades in PT Pro if needed.

I found the proposed steps useful (I'll paste them as many people can't see them)

Except that instead of 17 records I got more, one per student assigned to the section. So I found it easier to filter in DDE by whomodifiedid (as the teacher left and her courses were the ones that changed).
