Import Course Requests into PowerSchool from Xello Course Planner

Good afternoon,

I am trying to utilize Xello (formerly Career Cruising) for Course Requests. How do I import the requests into PowerSchool?

I found this document, but I can't seem to find this information.

Before you can import course requests you would need an export from Xello in the form of a Tab delimted .txt.

PowerSchool requires specific column headers for importing requests, you can find it here:

This sheet has multiple tabs but you would just need the Requests tab.

Did you ever end up doing this? We also use Xello and I am trying to figure out if it's worth doing course selections on Xello to then transfer to PS.

We've done this for years. It works very good. The export from Xello is formatted exactly as it should be for the PowerSchool import.

@aarnhold Mind me asking a few more questions of you? Our counselors got wind of Xello and had a very effective salesperson convince them that Xello will eliminate the need for them to do a lot of the course set up and assignment work on PowerScheduler side. Could you please give me a 2 or 3 point argument for using Xello? Where is its benefit over PS's Graduation Planner? I'm trying to figure out what to argue for to Admin and am not feeling confident.... thank you!!!

We're also trying to get Xello intreragrted properly.

I believe we've got general student data just fine, but we're stuck trying to get the family data into Xello from PS.

Xello is saying to work with PS support, and PS Support says it's out of their support coverage and to work with Xello.

Xello sent some Query Content/context but I have no idea what to do with it from there.

I'm so sorry! I didn't see this response and just happened to be looking for something else with Xello and came across your question.

My counselors have used Xello of years...however with the new graduation planner in PowerSchool, I'm hoping they will be switching away from that. I do not see a need to pay another company while we are already using PowerSchool for everything else. The counselors still need to things in PowerScheduler and PowerSchool, so they are spinning it a bit much there...unless we aren't using it to it's "fullest abilities", which is quite possible. But like I said, I'm hoping we get away from it soon, so I will not tell you any points for argument for using Xello 🙂
